FUSION PROGRAM
On-Campus & Online grades 4-8
CVA has pioneered an educational approach that is unique in the United States: students spend three days in classes on-campus and two days at home online each week. This dynamic fusion of on-campus and online learning helps students develop collaborative skills while also learning to manage their studies using technology tools at home.
Students attend classes on campus Monday - Wednesday from 8:30-3:30. Tutoring and a Study Center are also available on-campus to all students on Thursdays and Fridays. The Fusion program appeals to students and families who want the flexibility of an online program, the group interaction of an on-campus learning environment, and the personal attention that a small school can offer.
Curriculum
Th
e Fusion program curriculum emphasizes thinking skills, research strategies, international outlook, and a multiple perspective view of knowledge. History Day, Science Fair, Community Service Fair, Spring Musical, field days and field trips are an integral part of the Fusion curriculum and are scheduled yearly.
Subject Areas
CVA Fusion students in grades 6-8 take classes in each of the eight MYP core subject areas every trimester during all three years: Arts and Music, Humanities (Global Studies), Language A (English), Language B (Spanish), Mathematics, Physical Education, Science and Technology. In 4th and 5th grade Technology is embedded in the Arts and Science classes. Language B (Spanish) classes start in 5th grade.
IB Learner Profile
Our discipline model is based on the IB Learner Profile, an important element of the MYP. These are ten qualities that MYP learners work to develop and that form a framework for behavior expectations: Balanced, Caring, Risk-Takers, Principled, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Reflective, Communicators, Inquirers and Open-Minded. Learner Profile development activities are experienced in advisories and incorporated into class lessons.
The Student/Family handbook goes into greater detail about school policies and practices.
